DALEY DOES THE DOUBLE IN AACHEN
Young diving sensation Thomas Daley made the podium again
at the weekend as he added silver to the bronze he's already
won at the International Youth Meet in Germany.
The 10-year-old Plymouth diver scraped into the final of
the boys 14/15 years platform event in twelfth place with
309,45 points, behind British team mate Callum Johnstone (City
of Leeds) who qualified in sixth position in 324,20 points.
Twelve-year-old Max Brick (Southampton) finished a frustrating
thirteenth after the preliminaries to deny him a place in
the final.
In the final, Daley showed composure beyond his years to
put in the performance of his life and win silver with 350,95
points - a score that would have earned him the same colour
at last year's World Junior Championships.
Mingjun Zhang of China won gold with 362,55 points and Canada's
Riley McCormick took bronze with 340,90 points. Britain's
Johnstone was unable to improve on his preliminary result
and finished sixth with 323,95 points.
Also this weekend, Plymouths' Brooke Graddon finished sixth
in the girls platform with 381,65 points and Claire Blencowe
(City of Sheffield) was 10th in the girls 3m springboard event
with 317,30 points.
Johnstone and Daley also made the finals of the boys 1m springboard
with Johnstone finishing joint seventh with 335,30 points
ahead of Daley who picked up 311,70 points to finish eleventh.
Daley was also on show in the boys 3m Synchro event alongside
partner Kyle Prior (Plymouth). The pair finished in eighth
position with a score of 245,28 points.
The Diving International Youth meet takes place in
Aachen, Germany from 14-17 April.
The British squad consists of Claire Blencowe (City of Sheffield),
Brooke Graddon (Plymouth), Callum Johnstone (City of Leeds),
Kyle Prior (Plymouth), Claire Wonnacott (Plymouth), Max Brick
(Southampton DA) and Thomas Daley (Plymouth).
