RAMON AIMS TO INCREASE SERIES LEAD
Wearing
the series leader's red plate for the first time this season,
Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 rider Steve Ramon enters round 12 of
the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship at Loket in the Czech
Republic looking to extend his points lead while his on-form
team-mate Ken De Dycker is expecting to stand on the podium
for the second week in a row after his stunning second place
overall at the Grand Prix of Belgium.
For the reigning MX1 World Champion the Grand Prix of Czech
Republic has not been a happy hunting ground in the past but
with his confidence riding high he's more than ready to make
amends for past results and is hoping to win - or at the very
least podium - in Loket on his factory RM-Z450.
"I've not had such good results at Loket in the past
but this year I'm really looking forward to going there,"
said Ramon. "My riding is going good at the moment, I'm
feeling strong and my bike is performing well. I want to do
well there and extend my points lead - the plan is to keep
the red plate from now until the end of the year."
De Dycker currently sits in fourth place in the series but
a good haul of points from the Belgian GP saw him close in
on the leading three riders in the championship. Having podiumed
in individual motos at Loket in the past, De Dycker is looking
for more of the same this weekend as he hopes to climb further
up the series standings in the remaining four GPs.
"I'll be giving 100 per cent in every race until the
end of the season and my intention is to take back points
from the riders who are in front of me in the championship,"
said De Dycker. "I like Loket and I've had some good
races there in the past. It's one of those tracks that could
suit a lot of riders and there are probably four or five riders
who can win there - it's going to be a good race I think."
The hardpack, hilly and twisty nature of the Loket circuit
that's situated approximately 140 kilometres north-west of
Prague should make for some great racing as the championship
reaches its final few races. The weather forecast for this
weekend's race is mostly overcast with showers on Saturday
and sunny spells for Sunday's points-paying motos.
