MX1 LEADERS READY FOR BELPUIG
Team
Teka Suzuki WMX1 enter this weekend's second round of the
FIM MX1 World Motocross Championship as series leaders in
both the manufacturer's and individual rider's championship
after a very successful round one at Valkenswaard in Holland.
Team newcomer Ken De Dycker took maximum points at the season
opener on his aluminium-framed, Electronically Fuel Injected
RM-Z450 while reigning MX1 world champion Steve Ramon finished
second overall on his with a 3-4 scorecard despite suffering
from the after effects of flu.
The race on April 20 is the second round of the 15-round
championship and will be held at the spectacular 1.546 kilometre
Bellpuig circuit in the North Eastern region of Spain. The
Spanish circuit has been a happy hunting ground for factory
Suzuki riders in the past as former team riders Joel Smets
and Kevin Strijbos have both won motos here on their Suzuki
RM-Z450s.
Wearing the championship leader's red number plate for the
first time in his career, De Dycker is ready for another strong
showing in Spain. "I hope Bellpuig will be as good for
me as Valkenswaard was all weekend long. I've had good races
there before and I'm full of confidence because after round
one I now know I can dominate both races - I'm looking to
extend my championship lead for sure."
Ramon also feels ready to do battle with his RM-Z450. "Bellpuig
is not my favourite circuit but like all tracks it's there
to be raced. I'm over the affects of my flu now and I'm feeling
much stronger than I was in Valkenswaard so I'm looking forward
to being on the podium again."
The weather forecast for the weekend is strong sunshine for
Saturday's qualifying sessions while race day on Sunday could
potentially be showery. The temperature in Bellpuig should
stay at a steady 18 degrees Celsius.
