GUILLAUME WINS FRENCH SUPERBIKES
Team
Suzuki's Guillaume Dietrich stormed to a two-second victory
aboard his new GSX-R100K7 at the opening round of the French
Superbike Championship at the weekend.
The World Endurance rider said: "I knew I could have
a good result from the very beginning of the Championship
in Le Mans, but having the best lap on qualifying and winning
the race exceeds my expectations. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 had
very good settings for the race, even if I only tried it for
the first time last Friday and it is very similar to the GSX-R1000
we use for the World Endurance Championship.
"I had the best qualifying time for Superpole on Saturday
morning (1'39"999) but I made a wrong choice of tyres
for the Superpole on a wet track and was third on the starting
grid.
"But for once I had a good start in the race and led
from the first turn. It's great to begin the season with a
victory like last year but this time I will go to the end
and get the title. Thank you very much to all the Junior Team
for all the excellent work they've done this weekend. The
next round of Championship is at Lédenon on April
15th and I'm looking forward to it."
In the 600cc class SERT World Endurance Champion Mathieu
Lagrive was forced into second place after running out of
petrol on the last corner when holding a four-second lead.
