DUNGEY WINS IN DETROIT
Team
Makita Suzuki Racing's Ryan Dungey won the final East Coast
round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Lites class at Ford
Field in Detroit, Michigan at the weekend as team mate Ivan
Tedesco brought home an eighth-place result in the Supercross
class.
"I pulled an awesome holeshot," said Dungey. "I
just got up there and took it, and led every single lap. It
was cool. I had a good night and a fun time. It was a bummer
that we didn't get the number-one plate, but we're learning
this year, and next year we're going to work hard at it again
and hopefully I'll earn it. Our program's really good and
we just had a little bit of bad luck. All we can do is head
to the Outdoors and hope that we get them there."
In the Supercross class, Tedesco started the night strong
with a second-place finish in his heat race. In the 20-lap
main, he got a decent start but was unable to get around some
slower riders. Several laps in, he suffered a get-off but
remounted and was able to bring home eighth place.
"From the first practice, right off the bat, I didn't
feel too good," admitted Tedesco. "I struggled a
little bit. The second practice was a lot better and we dialed
the Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 in. I felt like I was going into
the night with a good set up. I felt confident. I got a good
start in the Main and got pushed around a little bit on that
first lap and kind of lost a few spots. I lost some momentum
and got into a little bit of a slow pace at the beginning
of the race. I went down on lap nine or so I hit a hay bale
in the mechanic's area and highsided and by that time I was
pretty far back and did what I could to get back."
In the Supercross Lites class, Dungey started out the night
with a strong second-place result in his qualifying heat race
and finished the night with a season-ending victory. In the
final East Coast SX Lites Main Event, 17-year-old Dungey got
the holeshot on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 and led all 15 laps
of the Lites race to victory. This win is Dungey's third victory
of his rookie season.
"I am still learning, so I hope to have better luck
next year," said Dungey. "I won the holeshot and
I rode a great race after that. This year, I've learned to
be a little more patient and not get in over my head. This
year during the season, I feel like I've matured a little
bit. And mentally I feel like a better rider now. I think
better, and that's what helped me out this year. Now I'm just
looking forward to racing in Las Vegas in two weeks."
Team Makita Suzuki Racing will take a two-week break and
then return for round 15 of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross
Series at Qwest Stadium in Seattle on Saturday April 28.
