Noble 2nd in Croatian National GS
Andy Noble (21, Edinburgh/The British Land Alpine Ski Team)
skied to his personal best international Giant Slalom result
today at the Croatian National Ski Championships in Innerkrems,
Austria today.
Finishing second in a strong international field Noble served
notice that he will be the skier to beat on Thursday when
the British Giant Slalom championship is scheduled to take
place at The British Land National Ski Championships in Meribel.
A close showdown with Noel Baxter, (24, Aviemore/The British
Land Alpine Ski Team) who is the defending champion is
expected.
Racing with bib no 23 Noble was 14th after the first run.
Racing 17th down the second course he skied the fastest second
run and took more than a second out of the winner's time on
the second run.
"It was a pretty cool day all in all. I am pleased with
my skiing today, especially my second run which just felt
perfect to me." Said Andy tonight as he headed off for
the seven hour car journey from the Austrian ski area to Meribel
to compete in tomorrow's planned Super G.
"I still feel there is more there and I have been going
quicker in training. The first run today felt a little slow
in places but I was really pleased with the way I skied the
second run. The snow has been really soft here but they had
done a lot of work on the course overnight and it held up
not too badly."
"I am really looking forward to Thursday's race. I am
feeling confident but Noel has been skiing well and you certainly
can't write Alain (Baxter) off, especially at The British
Land National Championships."
