The British Land National Ski Championships
Meribel, France.
Tuesday 28th March 2006
Sadly the weather forecast proved accurate for The British
Land National Ski Championships today. With rain and no overnight
freeze, snow conditions on the race piste were just too soft.
Compounded by poor visibility the decision to cancel the scheduled
British Championship Downhill was taken early.
This means that the results from Monday's downhill race for
the British Junior Downhill now stand as the British Championship
Downhill.
After winning on Monday Finlay Mickel (28, Edinburgh/The
British Land Alpine Ski Team) collects the British Men's Downhill
title for the fourth successive time and sets himself up in
good shape to defend the overall Men's Combined Champion title
he won here last year.
For Lynn Sharp, (20, Glasgow) the cancellation secured the
British Women's Downhill title. With defending downhill and
overall champion Chemmy Alcott making a dash to Meribel from
St Moritz to try to retain her downhill title, her travel
was in vain but the compensation was a quiet day to recover.
Racing is due to continue tomorrow with the Super G championship.
