British Land National Ski Championships; Day 1, Racing Postponed
Racing at the British Land National Ski Championships was
postponed today in Meribel, France due to the mild, sunny
weather which thwarted plans to run the first runs of official
training for the championship downhill which was due to take
place on Tuesday.
In the face of what may be a challenging week for organisers
and the local Meribel race piste operators, the schedule has
been changed to try and run the downhill tomorrow Monday.
Tuesday's temperatures are expected to be more than 15C with
rain so the prudent plan is to attempt to get the downhill
completed as soon as possible.
British downhill champion Finlay Mickel (28, Edinburgh) -
who this week seeks to defend his overall British men's title
- is due to arrive in Meribel today after a demanding schedule
of races at other national championships in Europe. Chemmy
Alcott (23, Hove) will miss the downhill leaving her the gruelling
task of going for the Victrix Ludorum for the fifth time in
seven years competing in the Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom.
