2005 WORLD ROWING FORUM
More than 25 speakers from over ten countries will take the
stage at the second biennial World Rowing Forum in Istanbul,
Turkey, under the theme of "Competing for the future
- Attracting new generations to rowing."
The World Rowing Forum will bring together Senior Coaches,
Junior Coaches, Events Organisers, Sports Medicine Professionals
and Rowing Suppliers from all over the world from Thursday
3 November to Saturday 5 November 2005.
Hyatt Regency Istanbul will be the World Rowing Forum conference
centre. It is located in the heart of the city's business
district. Excursions on Thursday and Friday evenings will
allow participants to experience Turkish tradition and see

A Gala Awards Dinner will be held on the last evening of
the Forum during which FISA's 2005 Coach of the Year Award,
Male Crew of the Year Award, Female Crew of the Year Award
and Distinguished Services to Rowing Award will be presented
to the winners.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Australia's Wayne Goldsmith will open the
Forum on 3 November addressing the topic: "Changing times
for endurance sports". Goldsmith is the name behind over
200 published articles on sport science, coaching and training.
He fronts Moregold Sports Ltd whose stated goal is, "helping
every athlete and coach achieve their goals to the extent
of their talents and beyond the limits of their dreams."
Currently Goldsmith is the high performance manager of Triathlon
Australia and was the section manager for Australia's Athens
Olympics triathlon team.
President of the International Paralympic Committee
(IPC) Sir Philip Craven, MBE will present Paralympic
Games Experience. He has led a major re-organisation of the
IPC over the past few years and will explain what they did
and how they did it. Craven is a five-time paralympian and
has been president of the IPC since 2001. He is also an International
Olympic Committee (IOC) member, foundation member of the World
Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and a member of the IOC 2008 Beijing
Co-ordination Commission.
Closing the conference, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki
will give the keynote address on how Athens made
the Olympic Games attractive for spectators, media, television
and sponsors. Angelopoulos-Daskalaki became famous due to
her outstanding leadership as the president of the Athens
2004 Olympic Games Organising Committee.
TRACKS
There will be four tracks at the Forum: Senior Coaches, Junior
Coaches, Events Organisers and Sports Medicine Professionals.
Throughout the three-day forum, workshops and sessions will
allow exchange of ideas , including "Ask the coach"
led by Mike Teti. Teti is a three-time Olympian and was named
United States head men's sweep coach in 1996, then head men's
coach in 2000. Teti is the coach of the only men's eight in
US history to win three consecutive World Championship titles
(1997 to 1999). At the Athens Olympics Teti coached the men's
eight to gold.
External speakers also include founder of Great Big Events
Greg Bowman. Bowman is the man behind the medal ceremony music,
"call to glory" from the Sydney Olympics. He has
been part of producing some of the world's most complex international
sporting events and at the World Rowing Forum Bowman will
address "How to create an attractive event".
World renowned sports scientist and World Champion in the
men's double in 1970, Niels Secher is a Senior Physician at
the Copenhagen Muscle Research Centre, Anaesthesiology Department.
He has published countless exercise-related and rowing-related
articles throughout his medical career and will be holding
two sessions for sports medicine professionals at the Forum:
"Neurophysiologic Adaptation" and "Train the
Brain".
Marc Joerg, Controller of Sport at the European Broadcasting
Union and former Marketing Manager at UEFA, will be addressing
events organisers about "Improving the TV Attractiveness
of Sport". He will give us an assessment of the current
TV market and what we can do to improve our position in it.
