on the Repsol Honda Team`s rider`s left hand and right ankle
The Repsol Honda Team rider, Dani Pedrosa, checked into hospital
- the USP Instituto Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona –
at 22:00 yesterday Sunday, for a complete medical examination
and to determine the exact reach of the damage he sustained
after falling in yesterday`s race, the German GP. Pedrosa
went to the ground in the rain at the beginning of the sixth
lap when he was leading the race by seven seconds. After a
preliminary examination in the Mobile Clinic at the Sachsenring
circuit, the rider - from Castellar del Vallés Spain
- flew to Barcelona to be treated by Doctor Xavier Mir and
his medical team at the USP Instituto Universitari Dexeus,
where he spent the night.
After completing all the necessary tests, the Chief of the
Surgery and Microsurgery-Unit, Dr. Xavier Mir, in cooperation
with the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, has declared that
“Dani Pedrosa presents a general inflammation of the
left hand with hematomas in the sheathes of both extending
tendons. The pilot shows a displaced fracture of the distal
phalanx of the left pointing finger, which has been reduced.
Further on, the patient presents a sprain of the proximal
interphalaxical joint of the middle finger of the left hand
which has been totally immobilized. Finally, he has undergone
a fixation of a fracture of the big bone of the left wrist
by an arthroscopic technique. It is confirmed that the patient
has suffered a lateral external sprain of the right ankle.”
The Repsol Honda Team rider will remain in hospital and an
evaluation of his injuries over the next 32 hours will determine
whether he can participate in the United States GP this coming
weekend.
