Hockenheim Testing, Day 1, 08/07/2008 - 8 JUL 2008
The ING Renault F1 Team begins testing in Hockenheim
Nelson Piquet, R28-04, 111 laps, 508 km, fastest lap 1:16.856
The ING Renault F1 Team began testing in Hockenheim today,
less than 48 hours after taking the chequered flag in Sunday's
British Grand Prix.
Much like the conditions for Sunday's race, the weather in
Hockenheim was overcast with frequent rain showers hitting
the circuit. With changeable track conditions the team therefore
had to adapt its programme accordingly.
Nelson Piquet was in the R28 for the first day of running,
covering 111 laps in total, equivalent to 508 km. He made
the most of the changeable weather to run in both dry and
wet conditions as he concentrated on set-up work and general
race preparation for next week's German Grand Prix.
Nelson will hand the R28 over to Fernando Alonso tomorrow
as the Spaniard will complete the final two days of testing
with the team.
Nelson Piquet: "We didn't manage to
do as many laps as we could have with all the rain interruptions,
but overall it has been a positive day and it was nice to
drive here in the week before the Grand Prix. It's quite a
rewarding track to drive, and, even with the changeable track
conditions, I was able to do quite a lot of work with the
set-up of the car in preparation for the race next week."
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: "The
weather was a bit inclement today as we had a few rain showers,
but the main test items were completed, which was pleasing.
The car was reliable, and Nelson did a good day's work, which
puts us in a good position for tomorrow when Fernando will
be in the car."
