Di Grassi out of luck in Sunday GP2 race
Lucas di Grassi was the unlucky victim of a first corner
collision in the Sunday GP2 race in Bahrain, and was forced
to retire on the spot. However, his fifth place with the ART
entry in the Saturday race and strong qualifying pace has
given the Renault Driver Development squad member some cause
for encouragement.
The Saturday result ensured that he started the second event
in fourth place. He got off the line well, but as he turned
into the first corner he was hit hard from behind and knocked
into a spin. Several other cars also became involved, and
Lucas was not able to continue.
‘My start was really good,' said Lucas. ‘But
the in the middle of the corner I got hit by Zuber, and that
was it. My starts have been OK, and yesterday the pace was
really good. It wasn't a lost weekend, I think we have the
pace to be fighting for wins. We didn't score the points that
we expected to this weekend, but in Barcelona we'll come back.
We just have to forget this one and look forward!'
Despite his mixed emotions about the outcome of the two races,
Lucas has thoroughly enjoyed his first weekend with the ART
team.
‘The guys work hard, they do a very good job, but GP2
is not like F1, where you have the freedom to do a lot of
things. It's the same parts for everybody, so it's just the
way you put the parts together. The cars are the same as last
year, so everybody caught up, and now it's a lot more competitive.
We expect to have a very tough championship in front of us,
and the details will make the difference.'
