FROM DRILLS TO RUNNING
A
recent post on the forum summed up a topic for today's training
article. Some beginners seem to have trouble understanding
how to go from Pose running drills to actual running and going
for a particular distance. There was valuable advice given
by the Pose Coaches and forum members, but all of it was rejected
as "non-answers". This is not the first time it's
happening. So let's take a look at this situation and try
to get to the root of the problem.
How does one transit from drilling and running short distances
to "simply running" and running longer distances?
To understand the answer to that question, you have to understand
what running is.
>From the Pose Method point of view, running is nothing
more than getting in and out of the "POSE". There
is only one "key pose" in running that allows for
continuous motion under the most optimal conditions, where
we position our bodies in such a way and manner that allows
for the easiest, fastest and most efficient energy transfer
in our gravity controlled environment. Energy transfer is
movement. So your ability to get in and out of "pose",
aka your technique, determines your running. EVERYBODY GOES
THROUGH THE "POSE" IN RUNNING. Whatever style is
utilized by any given runner, every single one eventually
ends up in the "POSE" and keeps on moving through
the cycle of repetitive motions. With the help of the Pose
Method of Running, one can learn how to go from Pose to Pose
in the most efficient manner without wasting energy on unnecessary,
extraneous movements that could happen in between the poses.
The only 2 things that separate average runners from the
elite ones are the engine and the technique. Everything else
"comes along". While we cannot do anything about
our engine, it is either a Ferrari or something else, we can
get a better handle on our technique, that is one thing that
is fully under our control.
How do you maintain your technique? You
learn to do so with the help of Pose running drills.
What are drills? Here's a definition from
dictionary.com: Disciplined, repetitious exercise as a means
of teaching and perfecting a skill or procedure. So, pose
running drills are specific exercises to help you learn to
run, aka get in and out of "POSE". Drills work their
magic by instilling a certain perception. So at the end of
the day, it's all about developing your perception.
The conclusion that you should make from the above is the
following - it is within the capacity of each one of us to
run any day, any distance for as long as we can maintain our
technique. So feel free to run longer distances at any time
and simply keep your focus on your technique.
