LONG FINAL - JAMIE STEVENSON MAKES BRITISH HISTORY FOR A SECOND YEAR RUNNING

JAMIE STEVENSON MAKES BRITISH HISTORY FOR A SECOND YEAR RUNNING Today brought the Long Final for the men and women. Jamie Stevenson 2003 Sprint World Champion was just 3.30 minutes away from a medal finishing in 8th place. Jamie is the first ever top ten placed GB Male at a World Orienteering Championships in the Long Distance event. There were 45 runners in the men's and women's race. The Long course length was 11020m for women and 17110 for men.

GB Athlete Heather Monro was just over 3.30 minutes behind on getting a medal position. We will be getting feedback from the team over the next couple of days.

The sun finally came out for the World Orienteering Championships Sprint Final in Rocklunda on Wednesday 15th September, in Vasteras, Sweden. The crowds were big and the atmosphere was electric.
The GB Camp was positive and focused and were ready for the first final of the Championships.

For the Sprint Final the GB athletes competing were:

Sarah Rollins, Helen Bridle, Jon Duncan, Graham Gristwood and Matthew Speake.

Sarah battled down the run-in with Helen to finish 19th and Helen 42nd.

Dave Peel, Head Coach said of the sprint results:
Great performances from the two younger men - Matthew and Graham (This is their first World Orienteering Championships). Both performing well in the qualifiers and exceedingly well in the final.

There were 45 runners in the men's and women's race. The Sprint course length was 2560m for women and 3060m for men.

The women's final results were:
Gold, Simone Niggli Luder,12.32.2 Switzerland
Silver, Karolina A Höijsgaards,13.01.1 Sweden
Bronze, Elisabeth Ingvaldsen,13.19.5 Norway
21st, Sarah Rollins, 14.31.9 Great Britain
42nd, Helen Bridle,16.33.0 Great Britain

The men's sprint final has finished and the medalists are:
