Second for Fitzpatrick

Craig Fitzpatrick and his run of British Supersport Cup victories came to an end at Snetterton Circuit at the weekend, Fitzpatrick had to settle for second place in the Fuchs-Silkolene supported series.

Fitzpatrick on the BLDS Couriers Yamaha finished 14th in the overall race and only 0.6 from his nearest Cup rival Andy Weymouth. Fortunately for the 30-year-old he acquired a second race bike for Snetterton thanks to his sponsors BLDS, Close Print and race developments. The second machine came into good use when Fitzpatrick’s number one bike suffered an electrical problem early on in the first qualifying sessions. After swapping parts around between the two machines he managed to get out on the new bike for the remainder of the qualifying session and finished 14th. With the second session being wet times were not improved during the afternoon session.

Riding a machine which had just been built two days before the race weekend took some getting used to and with the wet qualifying session Fitzpatrick had to further test some components in morning warm-up, making further changes before the race. A poor start in the race saw Fitzpatrick fall to 22nd place after the opening lap. He slowly had to work his way through the field and plough through the riders, he was locked in a battle for 12th position and fought his way through to 14th place.

Craig said “It’s been a hard weekend, we had a lot of work to do on the second bike as it wasn’t set up at all and I’d not even ridden it before. My number one bike broke in first qualifying and therefore we had to change the engine and loom over into the number two bike to make it feel similar. I’d like to thank my mechanic James and K-Tech for all their help over the weekend and although I didn’t get the race win I think we was lucky to even start the race!! I still have a good lead in the Cup Championship and hope I can get back to my winning ways at Mallory.”
