Fitzpatrick Eager to get to Thruxton

Craig Fitzpatrick will be heading to what is now the first round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Thruxton Circuit, Andover this weekend, 18th – 20th April. The original opening round of the series was due to be held at Brands Hatch two weeks ago but due to horrendous weather conditions the race meeting had to be cancelled and re-scheduled for the 10th and 11th May.

Fitzpatrick will be hoping to go to Thruxton and start where he left at Brands, fastest overall in the two free practice sessions and fourth overall in qualifying. Competing in the British Supersport Cup series, Fitzpatrick dominated the main Championship at Brands Hatch and was hoping to turn that into a strong race result. With six inches of snow hitting the circuit overnight those hopes were short lived.

However, he is now feeling happy about going to Thruxton and eager to get the racing season underway. He said “I was really gutted that the race was cancelled at Brands as it’s one of my favourite circuits and I was keen to get my season off to a strong start. The weather had other ideas though and the organisers made the best decision, the good news is that we are going back there in May so hopefully I will get another shot at it. I was really pleased with how the rest of the weekend worked out and I managed to find a really good set up on my bike. I’m looking forward to Thruxton as I just want to get racing again, hopefully the weather will be kind to us this weekend and that we can all enjoy some good racing. I’d like to be in contention of winning the Supersport Cup this year after finishing runner up last season I’d like to go one step better!”

Thruxton is one of the fastest race circuits in the UK and Fitzpatrick will be testing his BLDS Couriers backed Yamaha R6 to the maximum. The track is very bumpy and demanding and will certainly test the riders to their limits.
