GU RACING AND MAX WISSEL LOCKED IN FOR FC BASEL
Leading Swiss football club FC Basel 1893 have secured their
race team for the inaugural season of Superleague Formula
- and also become the first club to recruit their driver.
German Formula 3 team GU Racing will oversee the Swiss club's
Superleague Formula squad with young German driver Max Wissel
behind the wheel.
"We as a raceteam are very proud to be part of Superleague
Formula," said GU Racing owner Gunther Unterreitmeier.
"It is a great opportunity to build a new fan base for
motorsport fans and football fans. I really felt the passion
of the FC Basel fans in their stadium last Friday and I think
we will have huge support for the FC Basel raceteam."
Wissel currently competes for GU Racing in Formula Renault
2.0 in the Northern European Championship. GU Racing have
a busy year ahead - competing in the German F3 ATS Cup, Formula
Renault, Formula BMW and a new German series, Formula ADAC
Masters.
"I am very happy that I have the chance to drive one
of these spectacular cars," driver Max Wissel said (pictured

"The rules with the reverse grid will provide some spectacular
races. I will do my best to represent my football club and
provide the FC Basel fans with something to cheer for."
Unterreitmeier and Wissel visited FC Basel last Friday when
the club defeated FC Zurich 4-0 at Sankt-Jakob-Park.
"We are thrilled to welcome Max and Gunther to the FC
Basel team," Club President, Gigi Oeri said.
"Our fans are really excited about Superleague Formula
and we can't wait to see Max behind the wheel. While the first
round in the UK is going to be great, I am sure all our fans
at FC Basel will be very excited about crossing the border
into Germany for round two at the Nurburgring."
ITALIAN ACE JETS IN TO CHECK OUT TESTING
Driver interest in Superleague Formula is growing daily with
the phone ringing off the hook at the championship's Barcelona
headquarters.

(2005) visited the recent Jerez testing session last week
on a fact finding mission.
Toccarcelo is keen to get behind the wheel of a Superleague
Formula car when the championship kicks off in August this
year. The Italian is a former test driver for Minardi in Formula
One and also represented Italy in A1GP.
“The car really impressed me, especially the sound,
because the V12 is unbelievable," Toccacelo said.
"The car looks great and I just dream to drive it”.
Superleague Formula test driver Bruce Jouanny will be back
behind the wheel of the Hitech Motorsport-run prototype this
week at Magny Cours in France.
BTCC FANS GET SNEAK LOOK AT PROTOTYPE IN ACTION
Superleague Formula hit the track for the first time in public
on Sunday when test driver Bruce Jouanny completed demonstration
laps at the latest round of the British Touring Car Championship.
Round three of the BTCC visited Donington Park - the same
venue that will host the inaugural round of the Superleague
Formula Championship from August 30-31 this year.
For Jouanny, the visit was his second chance to unleash the
V12 engine at Donington Park. The initial testing for the
Superleague Formula car also took place at the historic midlands
venue.
In addition the on-track action, UEFA Cup finalists Rangers
were also represented on the weekend with their red, white
and blue Superleague Formula entry on display prior to the
club's official launch in Glasgow yesterday.
"Bruce gave the fans a great show and the reaction we
got on Sunday was oustanding," Superleague Formula Competition
Director, Robin Webb said.
"We had a huge crowd at the BTCC round and I am sure
many of the fans will be back to see 20 of these cars on track
in August."
RANGERS CELEBRATE UNVEILING
Rangers have had plenty to celebrate in the past seven days
and the party continued at Ibrox Stadium last night when the
fans got to see their Superleague Formula car for the first
time.
The club welcomed home their UEFA Cup Semi-Final heroes with
a game against Motherwell. The Superleague Formula car was
presented to the fans prior to kick -off.
Superleague Formula Commercial Director Jonathan Bancroft
was presented with a team shirt prior to the game by Rangers
players Steven Naismith and Lee McCulloch.
And to cap a great week off - a 1-0 victory for the new Superleague
Formula entrant.
