2008 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship

Last lap thriller gives Richards Supersport win at Oulton Park

2008 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport ChampionshipGlen Richards fought out a thrilling final lap on board his Triumph against Yamaha’s Hudson Kennaugh to take an important victory at the second round of the 2008 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship held at the fast and flowing Oulton Park circuit. With first round winner and Honda rider Steve Brogan down in fifth place on this occasion, Richards now heads the series after two outstandingly close races. Ian Lowry powered his Suzuki into third spot, although a little off the leading pace, to complete a rostrum packed with three different manufacturers.
Richards was kept off pole position during Saturday’s qualifying session by Chris Martin, with the Kawasaki rider leaving it to the final minutes to put in a time that was just five hundredths of a second quicker than Glen. In fact all the action happened in the last part of the session after Kennaugh looked odds on favourite to take pole position until the last ten minutes, but was finally demoted to third position on the grid.

Martin converted his pole position into an early race lead, whilst Richards had work to do as he fought his way past Kennaugh before the end of the first lap. Unfortunately for Martin the race was red flagged on lap four following an incident at Durids. The restart saw Kennaugh take advantage of the stoppage as he headed Richards, a position he held right through to the last lap. The Yamaha rider lost his lead to Richards as they crossed the line for the penultimate time, but grabbed it back as the Triumph teamster run wide later in the lap. Kennaugh defended his line well going into Lodge, but could not stop Richards going around the outside of him and out powering him in the sprint to the flag.
Fuchs-Silkolene are proud to be the official lubricant of the 2008 British Superbike Championship in addition to being title sponsors of the 2008 British Supersport Championship.
