2008 Silkolene Shorttrack UK Championship
Double victory for Boast
In a similar way to the British Superbike series, the original
opening round of the 2008 Silkolene Shorttrack UK Championship
was lost to bad weather, with heavy rain preventing the meeting
at Redcar taking place in late March. Thankfully in drier,
but still cold conditions the series did open at Kings Lynn
with Peter boast taking victories both in the main shorttrack
championship and the Silkolene Thunder bike class. Boast who
finished third in last year’s final Silkolene Shorttrack
UK standings and who took the 2007 Thunderbike title, had
to fight off strong opposition on route to winning both grand
finals.
Reigning Silkolene Shorttrack UK champion Marco Belli from
Italy was Boast’s closest challenger in the main class,
with the now CCM mounted rider making an impressive debut
on his new factory 510cc machine from the famous British motorcycle
manufacturer. Although Boast dominated the Shorttrack final
from start to finish, Belli maintained pressure on the eventual
winner throughout the enthralling and closing race. Steven
Hall, who finished as runner up to Belli last season, completed
the podium as he brought his 525cc KTM home in third place.
Boast enjoyed a similar run in the Thunderbike showdown,
taking the all-important win on board his 650cc twin Suzuki
ahead of Kevin Armstrong who was mounted on a 600cc Rotax
machine. The bigger capacity rostrum was finished with Honda
rider Paul Harrison taking third spot in the grand final.
Despite the loss of the initial Redcar meeting, the 2008 Silkolene
Shorttrack UK Championship will still take place over seven
rounds, with the postponed event having now been rescheduled
for Sunday 6th July at the same venue.
Fuchs-Silkolene are proud to be the title sponsors of both
the 2008 Silkolene Shorttrack UK Championship and the 2008
Thunderbike Championship.
