MSA Championships Update 28 April 2008

MSA British Sporting Car Trials Championship

Round 7 - Jacobean - London Car Club - 27 April - Long Compton, Warwickshire

Three competitors scored a perfect score of zero at the Jacobean trial, with Steve Courts, John Fack and Duncan Stephens proving unstoppable.

In sunny conditions the ground quickly dried, but the first three climbed all hills put before them. Thomas Bricknell finished fourth, stalling at a one being his only mark. Peter Fensom and Ian Veale were close behind on three, ahead of the star of the day Mark Seward, in his first season, who dropped just five to win the novice class and finish seventh overall. Antony Lane won the intermediate class from Monty Peters on a tie-break, both dropping eight, along with last week's winner Ian Wright.

Reigning National Class Champion Perez scored the first overall win for a Mexican driver and the first for his T-Sport team after a very wet first race. It was also the first win since 2006 for a Mugen Honda powered car. Round 4 was a lights-to-flag win for Red Bull driver Brendon Hartley(pictured left), just ahead of Perez who leaves Croft leading the championship by 4 points. Nicholson McLaren Aviation MSA British Hillclimb Championship

Rounds 1 & 2, Prescott, April 27th

The new MSA British Hillclimb Championship started with success for Scott Moran (pictured right) in both rounds and a bad day for the champion of the last three seasons, Martin Groves, who suffered gearbox maladies all weekend with a zero points spin in his last run. But it was even worse for his co-driver Paul Ranson who was left distraught when he damaged the front suspension by clipping a kerb when coming to the line.

Trevor Willis lies second on points after another successful weekend in the relatively low powered but nimble OMS and he may yet prove to be in the front runners all season. Wily old campaigner Roger Moran sits in third, which has become his habitual position for the last ten seasons. Groves will surely come again as will Basil Pitt who crashed after the finish in round 1 and went home early with damage that could not be repaired on the day. Giant-killer Robert Kenrick qualified his tiny Force for both run-offs but a slight shower made the start greasy and killed his chances in the second run-off.
