MSA Championships Update 14 April 2008
Britpart MSA British Cross-Country Championship
Round 1 - BADEN HALL (Staffordshire)
Deeside's Neil Davey clinched a dramatic last run victory
in the opening round of the 2008 Britpart MSA British Cross-Country
Championship at Baden Hall in Staffordshire on Sunday (April
13th). Huddersfield's Richard Kershaw eventually finished
four seconds behind in second place and Holywell's Tim Dilworth
completed the podium at the wheel of his Peugeot 206 STi,
although had he not clipped a tree on the final corner of
the last run, a potential victory had been in sight. He finished
a mere one second behind Kershaw's Peugeot 206 Evo9 after
a thrilling finale to the event organised by Marches 4x4 Motorsport
Management.
Muddy conditions prevailed throughout the weekend, but they
did not prevent Ambaston's Steven Lloyd from taking victory
in the Trophy category and Leamington Spa's Charlie Evans
from winning the Clubman event in his Rakeway Ridgeback.
"The conditions were never going to be easy, but it
was a great result and the perfect start to the season for
me," said a delighted Davey. "It was close right
down to the final corner of the last run and that means we
could be in for an exciting year."

Rounds 3 & 4 - Knockhill
Round 3 saw Jeremy Metcalfe and Luke Hines score their first
win of 2008 in the first British GT race held at Knockhill
since 2005, finishing ahead of the Dodge Vipers of James Gornall
and Jon Barnes and Aaron Scott and Craig Wilkins, a race punctuated
by four safety car periods. The GT4 class was won by Rob Austin
and Hunter Abbott (#55 Rob Austin Racing), a fairytale return
to the series after the fiery crash at Oulton Park that destroyed
their Ginetta G50.
Godfrey and David Jones won their first British GT race for
three years in the second race, taking the chequered flag
in the Team Eurotech Preci Spark Ascari KZ1R finishing ahead
of the Christians in Motorsport Ferrari of Hector Lester and
Allan Simonsen and the 22gtracing Aston Martin DBRS9 of Adrian
Willmot and Michael Bentwood. Matt Nicoll-Jones and Stewart
Linn won the GT4 class, extending their championship lead

John Fack ended Duncan Stephens' winning run after a huge
day-long battle and fabulous afternoon at Tulleys Farm. Wet

after the first round, then two points apart at lunch then
Fack demolished the whole field to win by eighteen. Ian Veale
had a steady day completing the podium, just ahead of Julian
Fack and Ian Wright. Ian Rodman won a very close intermediate
class with Richard Robarts and Andy Wilks covered by four
marks. Bill Sherras won the novice class again in fourteenth
overall, ahead of Simon Cowley in only his second event.

Round 3 - Mallory Park
2007 Champion Matt Oliver marked his return to the 20087
championship with a win, however it was a close fought win
as he needed a second run charge to secure the 12 points.
Stewart Robb Junior had led but Oliver demoted him to second
whilst 2006 Champion Roy Dawson could only finish in third
place behind the two young chargers.
Heather Calder wrote her name in the record books at just
17 as she became the youngest driver to firstly qualify for
a British Championship Top 12 and secondly score points. Her
improvements throughout the day were a model of how to go
about the art of sprinting.
Bill Oliver, whose broken leg delayed the Oliver's Championship
challenge doggedly fought through to 8th whilst the 'Chichester
Flyers' (Terry Holmes & Graham Porrett) took 5th &
6th.
Next Rounds: 3rd & 4th May - East Fortune.

MSA British Kart Championship
Rounds 1 & 2 - Three Sisters Kart Circuit, Wigan
Richard Bradley followed up his recent ABkC O Plate success
with a double win at the same track, taking maximum points
for the weekend, despite an engine failure in one of the heats.
He had topped the timed qualifying session over this team-mate
Lee Bell, and took the first heat from Mark Litchfield. Lee
Bell was able to uphold the honours of the Simon Wright Racing
Developments team in the other heat when Bradley's engine
seized on the second lap. "It's very annoying, but I'm
fast enough," said Bradley (pictured right), soon proving
it as he stormed up from grid eight and was waved past into
the lead by Bell. "There was no point fighting and I
thought I'd see where Richard was faster," explained
Bell.
But Bell's engine hesitated at the start of the second final
and he dropped to fourth, whilst Bradley pulled away. "It
was just a case of conserving the lead, then I saw I had a
massive gap so I could relax," said the winner after
a sudden heavy shower made the track treacherous. Mark Litchfield
was his closest contender, with Chris Rogers struggling to
keep up the pace in third. Budget strapped privateer Denis
Gorman made a very creditable fifth when Jordon Lennox-Lamb
overshot a corner. "The brake lever on the steering wheel
caught on the Nassau panel," explained Lennox-Lamb.
RESULTS ROUND 1

Round 1 & 2 - Three Sisters Kart Circuit, Wigan
Carl Stirling and Mackenzie Taylor (pictured left) shared
top spoils in the two KF3 finals. In the first Stirling was
another to repeat his O Plate championship success, taking
the win by a tiny margin over the just turned 12 year old
Alexander Albon. In the second final, Albon was squeezed to
the outside at the start, salvaging fifth, whilst Taylor and
Stirling escaped. A brief shower of rain saw Taylor extend
the lead massively. "Definitely the wet was to my advantage,
all credit to Ricky Flynn for the setup," said Taylor.
The rain stopped before the end of the race, with Rikki Gordon
leapfrogging John Norris to complete a Scottish winner followed
by three Irishmen.

HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship
Round 2, Rockingham
Fabrizio Giovanardi continues to lead the standings although
he failed to win any of three thrill-a-minute races at Rockingham.
Gordon Shedden (Halfords Honda) won the first from pole and
dedicated his victory to fellow Scot David Leslie whose life
- along with that of Richard Lloyd - had been celebrated by
a moving round of applause on the grid. Jackson (BMW) overcome
Giovanardi (Vauxhall Vectra VXR) to win race two which was
led for much of the way by Darren Turner (SEAT). Jackson,
poised to take the championship lead, then retired from race
three trying to pass Colin Turkington (RAC BMW) on a soaking
wet track. Instead, Matt Neal came out on top for his first
win with Vauxhall. The BTCC's opening six rounds have now
been won by five different drivers.

MSA British Long Circuit Kart Championship
Rounds 1 & 2 - Mallory Park
Jason Dredge had a fantastic start to his 2008 campaign by
winning the opening two rounds of this year's MSA Long Circuit
Kart Championship.
In Round 1 he was briefly challenged by Gav Bennett on the
opening lap, but was soon out on his own. He kept on building
his lead as the race ran its course eventually taking the
win by a comfortable margin. Jason said "it was an enjoyable
race, a nice way to start the season." Behind, Dean Hawley
held 2nd early on but was soon joined by Bennett, Matthew
Bett and James O'Reilly. These four had an amazing dice as
they traded places throughout, but with just a quarter lap
to go Bennett's engine cried enough and seized whilst O'Reilly's
chain broke in the same place and they could only watch as
Bett and Hawley went past to take 2nd & 3rd. Kevin Waring
took 4th with Stu Parker 5th.
Dredge was immediately out front again in Round 2 and was
in a class of his own. Conditions turned greasy as light rain
began to fall but that failed to slow Dredge's pace. Extending
his lead each lap the rest were left trailing as he pulled
clear his advantage close to four seconds at the flag. "That
was a brilliant result; better than I could have hoped for
and I am really looking forward to Oulton next month,"
he said.
Behind him, Matthew Bett & Don Kennedy scrapped for second
place. Dean Hawley was in the action as was Stuart Parker
but they began to drop away and as the race passed the half
way mark, Parker moved ahead of Hawley in the closing laps
to take his best ever finish.
RESULTS ROUND 1
1 Jason Dredge - Anderson Honda - 12:43.30 ( 96.92mph )
2 Matthew Bett - Anderson Honda - 11.72 behind
