World Trials Championship Round 3 Senez, France

James Dabill was on the verge of recording his best ever World result at the French Grand Prix, held in the South of the country earlier today. However a poor second lap showing would eventually demote him and his Future TRW Montesa Cota 4RT down to a slightly disappointing seventh place after such a promising start. Despite this latest result, Dabill still holds joint sixth in the overall standings, tied on thirty-seven points with Marc Freixa, after the first three rounds of the 2007 series.

Showing no signs of fatigue after his recent victory at the gruelling Scottish Six Days Trial, James looked very much back in the World championship groove as he made his way through the opening sections. His 0 – 1 – 0 run through the first three hazards made him the early leader as he produced rides that few of his rivals could match. James’ clean ride at the spectacular third section, brought the largest cheer of the day from the huge crowd as became the first rider to crest the fearsome vertical rock face.

Dabill produced an equally stunningly ride at section nine, the highest on the course, as became only one of three riders to record a clean at the succession of massive man made steps. Even with four time penalties to added to his score at the end of the first lap, Dabill was still within five marks of second place rider at that stage, which was Fujinami.

With a top five result a real possibility, James set off on his second lap, to ride the same fifteen sections that remained in a similar state to how he had found them in the morning. Despite his best efforts, Dabill was unable to repeat his earlier performance, and recorded a closing score some twenty marks more than his first lap.

Disappointed at having missed the opportunity to achieve his best ever result at this level, James commented. “ It is a real shame to have finished off with such a poor performance, especially the five in the last section of the day, as that has cost me sixth spot.”

“I really struggled with time in the sections on the second lap, and found myself rushing on quite a few occasions, which resulted in me making mistakes where I had recorded cleans on the first lap. It is not a disastrous result, but it could have been so much better.”
