Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship 2007
Preview – Rnd 4 Langrish – Sunday 3rd
June
The
battle of Britain resumes at Langrish
After a short spring break the Maxxis British Motocross Championship,
incorporating the second round of the newly introduced MXY2
class, will resume normal service on Sunday 3rd June at the
spectacular Manor Farm circuit near Langrish. This has been
the home of the famous Ken Hall Trophy meeting for the last
forty years. The grass valley with its steep sandstone track
etched into the hillside is no stranger to fame, having hosted
no less than four sidecar GPs plus numerous British championships
for the three wheel chariots.
Whilst the basis of this traditional circuit remains mostly
unchanged, the addition of some new drop offs should prove
both challenging to the riders and provide even more excitement
for the spectators who are eager for their next fix of Maxxis
action. Although Manor Farm hosted the very first 125 British
motocross championship round back in the early eighties, it
has never held a round of the premier Maxxis British Motocross
Championship.
Some of the series contenders may have had the benefit of
riding at the Ken Hall Trophy meeting in the past, but for
the vast majority the 2060 metre long track, especially in
its revised format, will be a new and testing venue. Often
regarded as one of the most spectacular and dramatic circuits
in Europe, Manor Farm is sure to create a fitting backdrop
for the fourth instalment of what has so far been one of the
best Maxxis campaigns ever.
Billy Mackenzie – De Groot Kawasaki heads the MX1 standings
after a consistent showing at the opening three rounds plus
a maiden moto victory in the bigger class during the last
meeting at Lyng back in April. However the Scot’s recent
form at World level has been somewhat over shadowed by his
nearest championship challenger Gordon Crockard – PAR
Honda. With reigning British MX1 champion Ken De Dycker –
CAS Honda also having not faired well at the last GP, Crockard
and last round victor Brad Anderson – Pioneer Yamaha
must go to Hampshire as the hot favourites in the MX1 division.
In the MX2 class, it is Tommy Searle – KTM UK who sits
on top of the championship points table, again through a series
of consistent outings rather than any blistering run of form.
Searle’s advantage is only narrow, and is sure to come
under immense pressure from Gareth Swanepoel – Molson
Kawasaki who dominated both motos at the previous round. With
neither Tom Church – Molson Kawasaki or Mike Brown –
CAS Honda having failed to produced note worthy performances
on the World stage, both will be hoping for a change of fortune
as they return to ‘home soil.’
The mix of some of World’s best riders, at one of Europe’s
best track, in a championship that is widely regarded as one
of the best domestic series on the planet, are just three
good reasons why a visit to Langrish on Sunday 3rd June is
a must. The action starts at 8.45am with MXY2 qualifying.
The first support race kicks off at 12.15am with the gate
dropping on the first championship race at 12.50pm.
The circuit can be found on the A272 three miles south of
Petersfield.
