MSA announces new Rescue Development Fund
The Motor Sports Association, with the support of its registered
charity the British Motor Sports Training Trust, is pleased
to announce the establishment of the Rescue Development Fund.
The new fund will provide grant aid for the purchase or refurbishment
of safety related equipment (to MSA specification) for MSA
Rescue and Recovery Units, including the renewal of the units
themselves, enabling them to be best equipped to undertake
their essential duties at UK motor sport events.
The Rescue Development Fund will also provide MSA Clubs and
MSA Rescue and Recovery operators with assistance for schemes
that promote the work of their units, in particular where
this is targeted at the recruitment and retention of crew
members. It is hoped that the fund will be of specific interest
to non-commercial clubs, and applications for grant aid will
also be considered for the supply of MSA branded safety clothing
for new licensed Rescue crew members and trainees.
The Rescue Development Fund is an extension of the existing
Club Development Fund programme, which has itself been responsible
for grant aiding projects worth almost £2.4 million
since its inception in 1995. Both are supported by the British
Motor Sports Training Trust to which the MSA Group contributed
over £300,000 in 2006.
"The establishment of this fund is an important recognition
of the excellent and vital work undertaken by the MSA Rescue
and Recovery Units," says Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive.
"As a result of the considerable expenditure required
to equip and operate these units, we felt that it was important
to extend the hugely successful Club Development Fund into
this area. We are delighted that the trustees of the British
Motor Sports Training Trust have agreed and we hope that this
will have a major impact, in particular among the non-commercial
clubs."
Application forms for the Club Development Fund (to include
the Rescue Development Fund) are available on request from
the MSA and can also be downloaded from the 'MSA Forms' section
of the website www.msauk.org.
Club Development Fund criteria:
Applications must be submitted by MSA Registered Clubs.
Grant aid eligibility and actual level of awards are decided
by an Awards Panel which comprises at least one member of
the Motor Sports Council, the Chairman (or deputy) of the
MSA Regional Committee, and an MSA Executive.
Priority is given to those applications which are safety related
or include proposals for venue improvements (in line with
MSA requirements or recommendations). Successful applicants
will be able to demonstrate a residual capital value to the
club of projects grant aided.
Awards are not made for the purchase of vehicles, office or
information technology related products, because of the high
depreciation of these items.
The maximum award is 50% of project value up to a maximum
grant total in a year to each applying club of £2,500
(i.e. towards a £5,000 or greater value project).
Rescue Development Fund criteria:
Applications must be submitted by MSA Registered Clubs, but
may be on behalf of MSA licensed Rescue and Recovery units.
Grant aid eligibility and actual level of awards are decided
by an Awards Panel which comprises at least one member of
the Motor Sports Council, the Chairman (or deputy) of the
MSA Regional Committee, and an MSA Executive.
Priority will be given to those applications which relate
to the purchase or refurbishment of safety related equipment
(to MSA specification), including the purchase or replacement
of the units themselves. Applications are also invited for
grant aid to assist with schemes for the promotion and marketing
of the work of the units where this is targeted at recruitment
and retention of crew members, and also for the supply of
MSA branded safety clothing for new licensed Rescue and Recovery
crew members and trainees.
Awards are not made towards the running costs of vehicles
or to subsidise their attendance at events.
There is no maximum award, but the principle of partnership
funding will still apply. The average level of award is anticipated
to be in excess of that previously granted by the Club Development
Fund. A maximum of one award will be made per licensed Rescue
or Recovery unit in any one calendar year.
