Italian Championship Camaiore, Italy
Continuing his 100% run, James Dabill made it three wins
from three starts as he took victory at the opening round
of the Italian domestic championship held at Camaiore yesterday.
The youngster from Leeds, West Yorkshire piloted his Future
TRW Montesa Cota 4RT to yet another win, as he came home thirteen
marks clear of his nearest rival on the day.
Fresh from his success at the Italian two day event the previous
weekend, Dabill returned to the UK for a couple of days before
flying back out to Italy for what was potentially his toughest
test of the season to date. James knew that his biggest threat
would come from his own team mate Lenzi, who is the reigning
Italian champion, and Maurino who finished as runner up in
2006.
However in reality Dabill enjoyed a relatively easy day as
he carved out a good advantage over his challengers. James’
day begun well with a stunning first lap, that was half that
of his closest competitor. With the pressure off Dabill produced
an even better performance as he tackled the ten sections
for a second time.
The third and final tour would prove to be James’ worst
showing as he clocked up two maximums to take his tally to
nineteen marks for the day. Dabill actually remained feet
up for the entire last lap, but was docked two fives as he
touched a marker and then was deemed to have crossed his line,
despite having used the same route on his previous two visits.
James will take part in the indoor trial to be held at Bolzano
later this week, before he completes his final preparations
ahead of the outdoor World championship kicking off in three
weeks time.
