Brianza two day trial

James Dabill made it two wins from two starts aboard his Future TRW Montesa Cota 4RT, when he won the famous Brianza two day trial for the second year running. The youngster from Leeds dominated both days of the Italian competition to come home well clear of his team mates Fabio Lenzi and the very experienced Diego Bosis to make it a Montesa 1-2-3.

Originally scheduled to run last weekend, the twenty fifth edition of this event was postponed for a week due to problems within the local province. Dabill remained in Italy for the additional seven days to ready himself for his first international outing since switching to the four stroke at the start of the year.

Dabill completed the two days without a single five, losing just four marks on Saturday, before adding only two more marks to his tally during the second and final day of the competition. Bosis was James’s closest challenger at the half way point, but with Lenzi posting the second best score on Sunday, it was him who would be the eventual runner up overall.

The change in calendar means that James’ next event is in just seven days time, with the opening round of the Italian domestic series taking place next Sunday. Dabill’s initial form on the Montesa makes him one of the favourites in the top class in this championship.

Although happy with his latest win, Dabill was quick to put his most recent achievement into context. “I am obviously delighted to have won, and for the team to have finished first, second and third, I think that it shows that our preparations so far have been somewhere near right.”

“ Winning is always a great feeling, and this weekend my victory has been relatively unpressured, so I have been able to enjoy my riding. However next weekend is going to be the real test, as there will be pressure and I am sure that the sections are going to be a lot tougher. That said I could not be more happy with the way that my testing and training in Italy has gone so far, so I am feeling confident and positive about the start of the Italian championship.”
