Formula 3 Euro Series 2007 – Nuremberg

Romain Grosjean wins turbulent rain race
Track temperature: 23.5 º C
Air temperature: 19.2 º C

#2 / Romain Grosjean / ASM Formule 3 Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) is the winner of the fifth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring. In a race that was marked by a rain shower, he finished ahead of Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport). Third place went to rookie driver, Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus). Buemi’s lead in the points’ standings of the Formula 3 Euro Series is now only one point.

On dry asphalt, Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3) took the lead on the opening lap and stayed out in front until the rain set in. Then he was pushed around by Grosjean when the latter missed his braking point on th wet track. The clerk of the course stopped the race as rain got heavier. Racing resumed with five minutes remaining in the 40 minutes’ race. Grosjean defended his lead from Buemi. In the remaining seven laps, Mortara found a way past Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3) and benefited from an accident of his team-mate Yann Clairay. Thus, the Italian got the chequered flag in third place.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “I braked too late at the first corner after the start and then dropped back to third. After that, I just tried to defend my position. Then, the rain set in and the race was really crazy. Victory is a great result.”

Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “I had clutch problems at the start and therefore I had problems getting away. After that, I just wanted to get a decent result. It is important that I have succeeded in defending my points lead.”

Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus): “After the first lap, I was only 15th. Making it all the way to the podium is just great. It was a great race.”
