Formula 3 Euro Series guest appearance on the British Island.

Track length: 1.929 kilometres
Lap record: 0:42.244 min Anthony Davidson, 2001
Distance: 58 laps
Winners 2006: Paul di Resta, Peter Elkmann

Following a seven-week break, the Formula 3 Euro Series is going to contest the third and fourth rounds of its 2007 season, this weekend at Brands Hatch. As the 1.929-kilometre circuit represents the shortest track on this year’s race calendar of the planet’s most competitive young-gun series, particularly exciting motor racing may be expected. In 2006, for instance, 23 drivers set qualifying lap times within just fractions more than seven tenths of a second.

Switzerland’s Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) travels to the rich in tradition circuit located south to London as championship leader. Still, quite a bunch of ambitious young drivers lures behind the current leader, any of them keen on stealing his championship lead: drivers such as 21-year old Frenchman Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3), winner of round two, at the Hockenheimring. Or Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3), one year younger than Grosjean and regarded as one of the title favourites, who wants to shine at Brands Hatch to compensate for his poor season kick-off. In 2006, the Japanese proved to be the best Formula 3 Euro Series rookie and the event held at Brands Hatch was the venue of his maiden podium finish in the most challenging young-gun series of the world.

19-year old Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3) also has fond memories of the venue of the third and fourth rounds of the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season. Just a few weeks ago, the German won the A1 Grand Prix season finale, at Brands Hatch.

Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “I’m travelling to Brands Hatch in an extremely motivated mood. Quite obviously, it’s my goal to be the winner. Brands Hatch is a great circuit that features truly interesting sections and fast bends where you need all your courage. Furthermore, the track is very short. This means that the racing will be extremely close, this weekend. Hence, you must avoid making any mistakes. I don’t think that I’m enjoying an advantage because of having contested the A1 GP finale at Brands Hatch just recently. On the one hand, we raced on the longer layout, then, and on the other, a track as short as the Indy circuit being less than two kilometres long can be learned quickly. Every driver should be able to do so during the course of the three-hour pre-event tests held on Thursday.”

The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17 countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés are broadcasted in numerous countries.
