THE POLISH GRAND PRIX IS ALL ABOUT BOU
Toni
Bou – Repsol Montesa HRC today continued his dominance
of the 2007 SPEA Trial World Championship with his seventh
victory at the Grand Prix of Poland, held in the small town
of Myslenice some thirty kilometres south of Krakow. Second
place went to Adam Raga – Gas Gas with Albert Cabestany
– Sherco earning his first podium position of the year
in third place.
The event was set in and around a small riverbed with very
steep banks and turns making up the majority of the sections
and very little of the large rock steps the riders are more
used to facing. However, this difference in terrain was not
to deter Bou.
Toni held a narrow two mark lead over Dougie Lampkin –
Repsol Montesa HRC at the end of the first lap with Takahisa
Fujinami – Repsol Montesa HRC and Cabestany tied in
third position. Uncharacteristically, Raga found himself back
in fifth position at the half way stage.
With Bou moving up a gear on the second lap, a three way
battle was on for the remaining podium positions between Cabestany,
Raga and Fujinami. This was a battle, which Fujinami could
consider himself unfortunate to have lost. Raga finished the
trial on twenty nine marks, the same score as Fujinami, however
the Japanese rider picked up two time penalties, taking his
final score to thirty one. Without those, the “most
cleans” rule would have decided second place and with
nineteen cleans to Raga’s eighteen, Fujinami would have
prevailed.
In the Junior Championship, Matteo Grattarolla – Sherco
gained his first podium position of the year, with a narrow
win. Michael Brown – Beta was second with Alexz Wigg
– Gas Gas in third place. Brown still leads the championship
with a thirty four point lead over Wigg who, in turn has a
thirteen point margin over Nicolas Gontard – Gas Gas.
The Youth Championship saw Alfredo Gomez – Gas Gas
return to his winning ways following his only defeat of the
season in Italy last weekend. Alexandre Ferrer – Beta
took his first podium place of the season finishing second
with Alexis Cervantes – Sherco taking the remaining
podium position. Gomez now enjoys a thirty three point lead
in the championship over Ross Danby – Gas Gas. His podium
place today means Alexis Cervantes keeps the pressure on Danby
for second place in the series with the gap now just six points
between the two contenders.
The 2007 SPEA Trial World Championship now moves swiftly
over the border to the Czech Republic with the seventh round
being held next weekend, 15th July in Kramolin.
