Motor Sports Association clubs make great plans for National
Motorsport Week 11-19 August 2007
With the second National Motorsport Week beginning tomorrow
(Saturday 11 August), many of the Motor Sports Association's
registered clubs are finalising their preparations for the
events that will attract new audiences to the sport.
Almost 150 events will take place around the country during
the next ten days, covering the vast majority of the MSA's
22 disciplines. Having sent details of the week and an information
pack to encourage clubs to participate in the national promotion
earlier this year, the MSA is delighted with the enthusiastic
response from a huge number of clubs.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive, said:
"National Motorsport Week is a joint initiative between
the MSA and the MIA to raise awareness of motor sport among
new audiences. Our delivery mechanism for this has to be through
the established club structure and we are delighted with the
response to this year's campaign.
"There are special events, open days, promotional offers
and opportunities to just have a go. Motor sport is a thrilling
activity for competitors, spectators, volunteer officials
and marshals - so the more people we can get to experience
the sport, the better. Lewis Hamilton's exploits in Formula
1 this season are helping to lift the profile of motor sport
in the general press, and we very much hope that National
Motorsport Week will build on this platform."
Some highlights of the coming week include:
The BTRDA (British Trial and Rally Drivers Association) will
be holding a Motorsport Open Day at Catton Hall, near Burton
upon Trent, on Saturday 18 August, offering a chance for anyone
to come and try out, for free, different forms of motorsport
including grass auto testing and production car trials and
find out more about getting involved.
Drivers from the MG Metro Cup will be taking their cars along
to Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo on Sunday the 12th August
to provide a static display and showcase the sport to a highly
desirable family audience.
Knockhill Racing Circuit is joining the Motorsport Scotland
Forum at Bell College, Hamilton on Tuesday, 14th August to
encourage new blood into the sport and to highlight all the
different careers and opportunities offered through education
and industry.
The 750 Motor Club Summer Festival Race weekend featuring
the thrilling Stock Hatch Championship 10th Anniversary race
at Silverstone on 18/19th August.
Cheltenham Motor Club is holding a number of events, to promote
