MSA outlines karting development strategy
The Motor Sports Association, governing body of UK motor
sport, with the assistance of the Kart Sporting Committee
has set up a working group to plan development for the future
of karting.
Interest in karting has risen significantly this year, stimulated
by the publicity generated by Lewis Hamilton's thrilling arrival
on the Formula 1 scene. Arrive and drive venues are already
reporting a discernible impact on their business and it is
envisaged that this growth at the grass roots level will translate
into the competitive karting arena in the coming years.
The remit of the new working group will be to consider how
to ensure continued growth and maintenance within the sport
and it is hoped that initial proposals will be available for
general discussion and debate in early 2008, with a view to
possible implementation from 2009 onwards.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive, said:
"The strength and success of karting is critical to
the future health of all motor sport disciplines, so we take
the development of the sport very seriously. I am sure that
this working group will bring many points of view together
and come to some well-reasoned and balanced conclusions."
Rod Taylor, chairman of both the Kart Sporting Committee
and the working group said:
"The working group is very much a 'think-tank' to receive
input from all sources before producing a working paper which
can then be discussed in open forums to determine the final
proposals. We would not only welcome constructive suggestions
but would actively encourage people to let us have their thoughts
on the sport and its future direction."
