World Outdoor Trials Championship Mancha Real, Spain - Dabill
James Dabill recorded a career best sixth place at the opening
round of the Outdoor World trials championship held in Spain
earlier today. In extremely difficult conditions the youngster
from Leeds produced the performance of his life to bring his
Future TRW Montesa Cota 4RT home just behind the World’s
current best five riders.
Reinforcing the hard work he has put in since he switched
teams at the start of 2007, Dabill continued his good run
of form aboard the specially prepared four stroke, adding
this latest result to the victories he has already gained
in both the UK and Italy. James’ performance today deserves
extra credit as he was forced to ride ahead of his main rivals
at this initial event, with the starting order being determined
by last year’s finishing championship positions.
Heavy rain from yesterday afternoon and through into the
night made conditions almost impossible, but the organisers
responded with alterations to every section to create a difficult
but worthy open Grand Prix. A good first lap showing put James
in seventh position come the punch card change, and left him
within touching distance of sixth place.
Despite the worsening conditions James showed great character
and went on to record an even better second and final lap
score. His continued determination was rewarded with an excellent
sixth spot, ahead of the more established pairing of Fajardo
and Freixa.
Understandably delighted Dabill stated. “So far so
good, winning first time out and then winning the first Italian
championship round was great, but today tops all of that,
it is fantastic and perhaps more than we could have even expected.
It’s been a tough test for me, the bike and the team,
and we have all come through it with flying colours.”
“I really want to thank Jack and the rest of the Future
TRW team, as everyone has worked really hard since January
to be able to achieve what we have done today. The bike has
proved itself at World level and Jack has really shown himself
to be a top minder, so everything looks good for the rest
of the championship. However I know we all must continue to
put the effort in if we are to continue to get the results
we are all hoping for. “
