Maiden pole in Formula 3 Euro Series for Buemi
Track temperature 26.8° C
Air temperature 18.6° C
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1:33.702 min)
secured himself pole-position for the first season round of
the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series at the 4.574 kilometres long
Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. The Swiss was 0.265
seconds faster than James Jakes (Manor Motorsport, 1:33.967
min), who occupied second place in qualifying. Franck Mailleux
(Manor Motorsport, 1:34.238 min), best-placed rookie in the
field, and Renger van der Zande (Prema Powerteam, 1:34.351
min) will be starting from third and fourth place respectively
on Saturday.
Sébastien Buemi was the dominating man in qualifying.
Three minutes before the session was over, there was a brief
interruption after an accident of Basil Shaaban (HBR Motorsport,
1:36.138 min), but Buemi’s pole-position was never in
danger.
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport):
“Finally, I came out on top in qualifying of the Formula
3 Euro Series, after I scored three second places already
last year. My qualifying session wasn’t perfect, but
it was okay. I am optimistic for tomorrow’s race.”
James Jakes (Manor Motorsport): “Being
on the first grid row for the start of the season is a great
way to start. Sébastian and I were the only two drivers
to lap under 1.34 minutes. For the race, I reckon that I have
good chances of winning, because in the race, our car is even
better than in qualifying.”
Franck Mailleux (Manor Motorsport): “Until
halfway through last year, qualifying was my big problem,
but now I am getting better and better. I also think that
the Formula 3 car suits me better than the Formula Renault
I raced last year. From that point of view, third place is
not a great surprise for me.”
