Grosjean takes first victory in Formula 3 Euro Series

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) is the winner of the second
season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 4.574 kilometres
long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. Yelmer Buurman
(Manor Motorsport) and Sébastien Buemi (Mücke
Motorsport) finished second and third respectively.
Because of oil on the track from a preceding race, the races
was started from behind the safety car. Buurman took the lead
while Grosjean had to catch up after having started from fourth
place. From lap nine onwards, the 21-year old Frenchman had
a fierce battle with the leading Dutchman and finally went
past on lap 19. Swiss Sébastien Buemi, leader in the
points’ standings, also made it onto the podium on Sunday
after having won the race on the day before. Behind him, Jean-Karl
Vernay was classified as the best-placed rookie in fourth.
Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “For me, victory is
a good way to end this weekend that had started rather badly.
The flying start was somewhat annoying as gaining positions
is much easier with a standing start. Once I got past Yelmer
and was in the lead, I could pull clear quite easily.”
Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport): “Second place is
not a bad result, that was all I could do today. The flying
start was annoying, but we couldn’t change it. We were
lacking speed throughout the weekend. Therefore, I am happy
with second place.”
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “Four
important points in the fight for the title. Making up from
eighth on the grid to finish third is a good result. In the
closing stages, I tried to overtake Yelmer, but I didn’t
want to take too many risks just for one extra point. Third
was good enough for me.”
