CCM riders survive difficult start to 2007 Silkolene Short
Track UK Championship
• The all conquering CCM team of Lee Complin and Andrew
Moore, who finished first and third respectively in the 2006
series, struggled to repeat their winning form of last year
at the opening round of the new championship held at King’s
Lynn. On a night when little went right for the Bolton based
squad, Moore was the best of the two riders with a second
place overall on the proven FT35R, whilst Complin battled
to a disappointing fourth spot as he failed to find the correct
set up on his SR40 street scrambler.
• New tyre restrictions were at the heart of CCM’s
problems, with the team having had no time to test their new
rubber which had been shipped from the USA by Dunlop, who
has join the squad as a sponsor for 2007. Complin spent the
entire evening experimenting with different tyres, using literally
a different tyre each race, as he struggled to find grip on
a bike that also required suspension adjustments, which simply
could not be made as no base set could be found. Moore faired
slightly better and settled for a safe package, that although
was a compromise, was good enough to give him a reasonable
result.
• Moore transferred to the final without being out
of the top two in any of the heats or even in the semi final
where he came up against eventual victor and 2005 champion
Marco Belli. In contrast Complin was far from his best and
scraped through to the main event with a fifth position in
his semi.
• Poor qualification left Complin at the back of the
grid in the final, but thanks to a great start he soon found
himself up to third place, which he looked to have made his
own until two laps from the end when yet another mistake forced
him down to fourth come the flag. Moore rode a mature race
and tucked in behind Belli to collect a valuable runners’
up position to start his title assault on his Dynomax prepared
FT35R.
• CCM have much needed tyre testing sessions scheduled
ahead of the second round of the championship that is set
once again to take place in front of a massive crowd at the
BMF show held at Peterborough on Saturday 19th May 2007. Subject
to other commitments, it is hoped that Neil Hodgson will join
the CCM team at the BMF meeting for his second guest ride,
but this time on the new CCM FT710cc twin shock in the Thunderbike
class. Sunday 20th May will see the first ever inter countries
competition - Flattrack Nation’s Cup – held at
the same venue.
