World Trials Championship, Sequatchie, USA

Round 3 – 20/05/06

James DabillRound three of the World outdoor championship saw James Dabill continue to make his mark amongst the top riders, with an excellent eighth place during the first day of competition earlier today. Dabill’s continued presence in the World’s top ten also moves him into eighth position in the overall standings, this latest result adding to the seventh spot he earned at the last round in Portugal.

In hot and extremely humid conditions Dabill showed great strength and endurance by improving his performance during his second and final lap. Slippery green boulders and greasy bankings gave the US event a distinctively British feel and allowed James to produce one of his best rides at this level despite the tough test the long and technical hazards provided.

Dabill begun the day strongly with just a single dab in the opening section. This was a ride that was only bettered by three riders, one of those being eventual victor Adam Raga. Cleans at sections three and thirteen were the high points during an opening lap that saw James lose a hefty forty-five marks.

With conditions pretty much unchanged, James showed great grit and determination to go seven marks better on his closing lap, despite feeling the effects of five and a half hours of brutal riding in extreme temperatures.

Dabill was relatively pleased with his result, but would have preferred to of been closer to seventh position rider Freixa.

“Overall I am happy with my result, when you take everything into consideration. Riding in front of the main group has been hard as I didn’t really have anyone’s line to follow.”

“On the second lap it was a bit easier, as despite being a bit tired, we could at least use the same lines as everyone else. Eighth today and eight in the championship is a good result both for me and the team. Maybe tomorrow it can be even better?”
