MSA appoints Robert Jones as General Secretary as Terry
Lankshear retires after 31 years
After more than 31 years working for the governing body of
UK motorsport, the Motor Sports Association's General Secretary
Terry Lankshear will retire next Tuesday (9 May). In his place,
the MSA is delighted to confirm the appointment of Robert
Jones with effect from 3 July 2006.
Originally joining the company on 3 March 1975, Terry Lankshear
was heavily involved in the creation of the Constitution of
the British Motor Sports Council in 1975. In 1979, he oversaw
the formation of the RAC Motor Sports Association Limited
was set up as an associated company out of the Royal Automobile
Club, to administer motor sport in all aspects. In October
1998, the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association (trading
as the 'Motor Sports Association') was established.
Terry was present at the MSA's first board meeting in 1978
and has missed just two of the subsequent 145 meetings. When
he turns 62 on Tuesday, Lankshear's time at the helm will
come to a close.
"It's been an exhilarating experience working here this
past 31 years and I can say without hesitation I've never
had a dull moment," says Lankshear. "I guess that
has been down to the enormous amount of change that I have
witnessed and been a part of. I only hope that my successor
receives the same enjoyment that I have had with the company
and wish him well in that quest."
Taking up the reins as MSA General Secretary is Robert Jones,
a 50-year old solicitor from South Wales with many years experience
of motorsport, as a professional adviser, a competitor and
an enthusiast.
Robert has been a solicitor for 26 years, the last 16 of
which he has been a partner in private practice specialising,
amongst other things, in areas of law relating to motorsport,
representing both drivers and teams. In addition he is an
experienced company secretary. Robert competed in rallies
in the 1980s and has been involved in motor sport and motor
clubs as an enthusiast for many years.
"I am thrilled to be presented with this great opportunity,"
says Jones. "As a lifelong motorsport enthusiast, it
is clearly a huge privilege to work for the Motor Sports Association.
Terry leaves some very big shoes to fill but I am looking
forward to the challenge immensely."
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive says:
"Terry's service to the MSA over the last thirty years
has been immense. He has worked tirelessly from the very outset
and has kept the business in excellent order. The current
financial stability of the MSA is largely down to his steady
hand and in recent years he has effected a modernisation programme
that leaves the company in the best possible health going
forward.
"We are delighted to welcome Robert Jones to the team.
We feel certain that his professional credentials and personal
experiences make him the ideal candidate to take over the
role and we look forward to taking the MSA forward into the
future."
