Raga takes slim lead to USA
After
a short Spring break, the fight for the 2006 FIM Trial World
Championship begins again this coming weekend at the USA Grand
Prix, which marks round three of the current series. The riders
will have welcomed the brief pause in battle, as the championship
now begins its most intense period of competition.
Making it worthy of its World status, the series will swiftly
switch across three different continents, as the championship
first visits America before moving on to Asia for the Japanese
GP and then on to Europe. Here it will bounce from France
to Italy and then to Poland over three successive weekends.
Having dominated the 2006 World indoor series, Adam Raga
– Gas Gas was hot favourite to continue his winning
ways as the action shifted outdoors. Whilst Raga heads the
current standings, his advantage is only slim having not managed
to record a victory at the opening two rounds.
Winner of the first round Antonio Bou – Beta sits just
one point behind Raga, but is hardly in a comfortable position
with the Repsol – Montesa HRC pairing of Takahisa Fujinami
and Dougie Lampkin following the young Spanish rider very
closely.
Albert Cabestany – Sherco will be looking to use the
first of only two – two days events (USA and Japan)
to improve on his opening performances and pull himself back
into contention. This will also be the case for Marc Freixa
– Beta having made the switch to the Italian team following
poor results in both Spain and Portugal.
British rider Michael Brown – Beta heads the Junior
championship as he travels to the USA for the first time.
Daniel Gibert - Montesa and Daniel Oliveras – Gas Gas
will be hoping for Spanish success in Tennessee, as the pairing
look for revenge over Brown and to record their first wins
of the series.
Two wins from two starts leaves French rider Loris Gubian
– Sherco in charge of the 125 class going to the USA,
but Gas Gas riders Alexz Wigg and Nicolas Karim are sure to
be looking to stop his run.
