UK World Trial Grand Prix – Round 8 FIM Trial World
Championship 2006
• Hawkstone Park 29/30 July 2006
• With just sixty days to go to the T+MX Grand Prix
Great Britain, on 29 / 30 July 2006 at Hawkstone Park, preparations
are well under way to ensure that this year’s event
is even more successful than the well received initial edition
held twelve months ago. This in itself is a major task, with
over eight thousand fans packing the Shropshire venue last
July to confirm their approval.
• This year sees the introduction of a brand new element,
with a World class Mini Masters trial planned for Saturday
afternoon. This will be an event within an event and will
bring together some of the best ex-riders on the planet for
a truly one off and unique opportunity. Spanish trials legend
and seven times World champion Jordi Tarres heads an entry
that will also include another previous World champion in
the form of Marc Colomer.
• Far from having an easy Saturday afternoon ride,
these guys will be up against it with crowd favourite and
former World championship round winner Amos Bilbao also looking
to win this prestigious past masters trial. Multi British
title holder and ex vice World champion Steve Saunders will
be making a rare outing as he goes all out to up hold British
honour against a strong foreign contingent.
• Only a brave man would pick a winner from the above
names, as Beta’s current factory test rider Donato Miglio
is riding more than ever and will be hoping that his regular
practice sessions will give him the edge over his old rivals.
Negotiations with other ex top riders is on going with Diego
Bosis being one of the names who remains as a natural addition,
and who is set to confirm his appearance very soon.
• The Mini Masters trial will take place as a conducted
event, with all the sections being in close proximity to the
factory paddock, allowing spectators to follow these sporting
legends every inch of the way as they resume their rivalry
against each other. As with the rest of the weekend, Eurosport’s
Jack Burnicle will be on hand to provide live commentary and
to grab interviews with this exclusive entry.
• Commenting on this exciting addition to the programme,
Jake Miller of L+M Events explained: “Our whole idea
is to create a weekend of activity and entertainment rather
than just a one day trial. Sunday looks after itself, and
if the climax to the trial is anything like last year, then
the public are going to be in for another great and memorable
day.”
• “What we wanted to do was to give people an
extra reason to also enjoy Saturday with us too. Having seen
the reaction from the public when Tarres, Colomer and Bilbao
joined in practice with the current riders last year, we knew
we had to expand on an idea that was already a winner. Getting
these guys back together in a competitive yet fun event is
a really exciting prospect.”
• The Mini Masters trial is part of a full programme
of events planned for Saturday, which also includes official
practice for the World championship riders, plus demonstrations
and training sessions by Mr Showtime – Steve Colley.
With on site camping available from Friday, families and friends
are invited to book early and make this an important part
of the Summer holiday period.
