World Trials Championship
Round 4 – 04/06/06
Motegi, Japan
The Japanese Grand Prix will be a round of the 2006 World
trial championship that James Dabill will want to forget quickly.
After yesterday’s disappointing twelfth place, Top Trial
team rider Dabill was looking to make amends and to make the
long trip to Asia a worthwhile journey.
However a five in the very first section of the day, as he
nosed dived the relatively straight forward concrete triple
step, was to set the tone for the day. In fact this was the
start of a trio of disasters, as James racked up three maximums
in the first three hazards. This tally of failures would rise
to nine by the end of the first lap, and included a spectacular
crash on the final step in section eight.
Dabill lost both time and concentration as his team rallied
to get his bike back into shape, after the heavy fall had
severely bent his handlebars along with destroying several
other parts. Whilst not actually injured during the incident,
James’ already fragile confidence took another beating
from which it was never really able to recover.
The second and final lap of the weekend brought few positives,
as whilst Dabill reduced the number of fives he incurred on
his final visit to the now drying sections, his lap score
was only three marks better than his equally poor morning
performance.
These two bad results sees James slip to ninth in the series,
and some what offsets the good rides he produced in the opening
three rounds.
“It has been a bad weekend from start to finish, and
one that I want to get out of my system as soon as possible.”
“I thought after yesterday, things could only get better,
but as today has proved that has definitely not been the case.”
“The whole weekend has been a waste, and with the few
points I have picked up, it hardly seems worthwhile having
made the long journey at all.”
“I am now looking forward to getting back to Europe
and getting my campaign back on track.”
