World Trials Championship Motegi, Japan
Round 4 – 03/06/06
The
long and late trip to Japan took its toll, as James Dabill
slumped to his worst result of the World championship to date,
when he finished in a lowly and disappointing twelve place
earlier today. Having only arrived at Japanese Grand Prix
venue on Thursday evening, James missed the first practice
session and then fought to build his bike ready for Friday
morning’s technical control.
Dabill’s entry in this weekend’s competition
was only confirmed with minutes to spare as he became the
last rider to make it through the verification process prior
to the eleven o’clock deadline. Whilst James’
bike passed the necessary official tests, it took further
time to prepare his machine ready for the second and final
practice session.
With only limited time on the bike and suffering the effects
of jet lag, having arrived a day later than his rivals, Dabill
started the day on the back foot and looked beaten before
the trial had even begun.
A single dab in the opening section of the day was the highlight
of an otherwise lack lustre first lap performance by the twenty
year old from Leeds, West Yorkshire. Although Dabill improved
slightly as the competition wore on, his second lap loss of
seven marks less had little impact on his overall result.
“I am really not happy with how today has gone. I rode
badly and had no fight to do anything about it, which is really
not like me.”
“I started with a good ride in the first section, but
after that I clocked up seven fives on the trot. I think that
tells pretty much all you need to know about the first lap.”
“There were some improvements on the second lap, but
the difference was not enough to save the result.”
“The late travelling has definitely played its part,
and is something that I need to look at with the team for
the future.”
“Hopefully with a good night’s sleep, I can be
back on in the morning.”
