World Trials Championship - Dabill
Round 5 – 25/06/06
La Chatre, France
After a recent run of poor results, James Dabill made a welcomed
return to form, with a confidence boosting eighth place at
the French Grand Prix held at La Chatre earlier today. Dabill
re-confirm why so many people in he paddock have tipped as
the hottest new talent, by scrapping out a solid result despite
very difficult conditions and against the backdrop of finishing
in a disappointing seventh position in yesterday’s European
round at the same venue.
Whilst the extreme heat, plus the dry and dusty sections
may not have best suited James during Saturday’s competition,
he looked a far more complete and determined rider on the
wet and greasy going today. Torrential over night thunder
storms had added extra severity to an already tough course,
but it was obvious right from the outset that Dabill was up
for the challenge.
His fighting approach was typified as early as section three
where his single dab effort, that brought wild roars from
the French crowd, was unmatched by any rider. Eventual winner
Lampkin lost a maximum in the same hazard, whilst no other
rider bettered a scrappy three.
With many of the sections proving impossible on the first
tour, James made sure in those hazards which mattered, with
an excellent clean at nine and a single dab at fifteen.
A much improved second lap performance saw James maintain
the same position as he held at the half way point, eighth
place being just reward for a determined and mature showing.
“It was important to stop the rot today, especially
after what happened yesterday. Last night I sat down with
the team and looked at where I have been going wrong recently.”
“Everyone has made an extra effort today and we have
got the result both I and the team knew we were capable of.
It has been a tough day, but I have really enjoyed the challenge
and felt that I coped well
despite the difficult conditions.”
“I am now looking forward to Italy, as my confidence
has been restored by the way I rode today.”
