European Trials Championship - James Dabill
Round 3 – 24/06/06
La Chatre, France
The third round of the European championship in the French
town of La Chatre saw James Dabill record his worst result
of the series to date. His seventh position in the hot and
dusty conditions has seen his championship lead disappear,
with Dabill and today’s winner Daniel Oliveras now tied
at the top of the standing on forty six points apiece.
An absolutely disasterous first lap performance saw James
back in eighth place on a score of thirty nine marks, this
compared to Oliveras who had dropped just sixteen marks over
the same period.
With temperatures reaching over 35 degrees Celsius Dabill
fought back well to post a much-improved second lap total,
dropping only twenty two marks on closing tour despite feeling
the effects of the severe heat. Whilst this was a massive
effort from the young Yorkshireman the impact on the overall
result was minimal, with James climbing just one place to
seventh come the finish.
This is the first time that the European championship has
visited the small but beautiful town of La Chatre, which is
surrounded by flat countryside. A disused railway line formed
the basis of the course with hundreds of large boulders having
been imported and erected on the steep bankings on either
side of where the track use to lay.
The man made nature of the sections plus the dry and hot
conditions definitely suited the Southern European riders
and proved a stiff challenge for a slightly off form Dabill.
Dejected and disappointed with his result James spoke immediately
after the trial about the day he had endured.
“I am really unhappy with how it has gone today. My
second lap was better, but was still well below what I know
I am capable of.”
“Things have not been going well at the last few trials
and I need to pinpoint what is going wrong, as I started the
season so strongly, but seem to have lost something in more
recent weeks.”
“I am going to speak with the team later on, and I
hope we can find some answers so that we can go out tomorrow
and get a result that we all know I am well capable of.
