Spanish Outdoor Trials Championship La Nocia (Alicante),
Spain
Round 4 Sunday 18/06/06
Dougie Lampkin’s disappointing run of results in
the Spanish domestic championship continued, when he finished
just behind his Japanese team mate Takahisa Fujinami to take
sixth spot at the fourth round of the series held near Alicante.
Lampkin’s final score of thirty two marks was exactly
double that of eventual winner Bou and included fives on both
laps at sections six and eight, where a steep climb to an
over hanging rock and a large step were the parts that caused
the problems.
This result matches the worst finish recorded by Dougie
in this year’s championship to date, as he also took
sixth position at the last round after placing fourth and
third at the opening two counting events.
With just three rounds remaining, one round each in the
months of September, October and November, Lampkin finds himself
in fifth spot in the overall standings eight points behind
Cabestany, which compares to the second position he currently
holds in the World outdoor series.
Less than satisfied with his performance, Dougie pointed
to nothing but himself for his poor showing. “There
is no excuse, I simply rode badly in the sections where it
mattered most. Twenty marks in two sections is not something
you can afford when you are riding against these guys.”
“What is really disappointing is that we had had
a very productive week of testing in the days prior to the
trial, so I came here full of confidence. I am sure the improvements
we have made to the bike will help me, hopefully starting
with the next round of the World championship this coming
weekend.”
The trial at La Nocia, near Alicante was held in dry and
extremely hot conditions with many of the hazards being located
on a steep and loose hillside.
Lampkin will travel to La Chatre in central France later
this week, ready for the fifth round of the World championship,
before moving on to Italy then Poland over the next two weeks,
as the series moves swiftly on.
