World Outdoor Trials Championship - Poland

Fujinami wins Polish Grand Prix

CabestanyWith the return of World trials to Poland for the first time in over ten years, Takahisa Fujinami – Repsol Montesa HRC followed up his win in Italy last weekend with victory again today by beating reigning World champion Adam Raga – Gas Gas. Albert Cabestany – Sherco took the remaining podium position.

The town of Myslenice played host to the seventh round of the 2006 series and presented a tough trial consisting of steep twisting embankments alongside a river with very few of the large steps normally associated with these events.

Fujinami ended the first lap tied with Cabestany on twenty seven marks apiece despite a major crash in the sixth section which saw both him and his bike completely submerged in the river. However, with his health problems seemingly behind him he turned in a second lap score of sixteen marks to take victory by just one point. Both Raga and Cabestany finished the event tied on forty five marks apiece, but with Raga having cleaned one more section than Cabestany it was sufficient to give him second place on the podium.

Raga now holds a fifteen point lead in the championship with Fujinami in second place, having overtaken Dougie Lampkin – Repsol Montesa HRC who finished fourth today.

In the Junior Championship Daniel Oliveras – Gas Gas returned to the top of the table with a single point victory over Daniel Gibert – Montesa. Michael Brown – Beta finished in third place. Oliveras now has a slim two point lead over Gibert in the overall standings.

A low scoring Youth event saw Alexz Wigg – Gas Gas take his fourth victory of the season by dropping just a single dab the entire day. Loris Gubian – Sherco was second having dropped just one more dab than Wigg. Matteo Grattarola earned the remaining podium place. After Poland, Gubian has a twenty point lead in the championship.

After three consecutive weekends on the road across Europe, the 2006 FIM Trial World Championship will now take a short break, returning with the Grand Prix Great Britain at the end of July, which will take at the famous Hawkstone Park venue.
