Three in a row for Fujinami

Takahisa Fujinami – Repsol Montesa HRC continued his run of victories with another top podium position at the Great Britain Grand Prix today at the Hawkstone Park Motocross circuit. Fujinami took a narrow win over Adam Raga – Gas Gas with Albert Cabestany – Sherco in third place.

Albert Cabestany – ShercoAfter the injury and illness that marred the start of his 2006 campaign, Fujinami continued his return to form with his third consecutive victory, and fourth of the year to date. A score of fourteen at the end of the first lap saw him with a five mark advantage over Cabestany at the half-way stage. Despite a higher score of eighteen on the second lap, it was still sufficient to give him a one-mark victory over Raga, who launched one of his trademark comebacks in the second half of the competition, dropping just twelve marks.

Having missed out on a podium position in Italy and settling for second place in both Poland and now the UK, Raga still leads the championship, but with a reduced margin of twelve marks over Fujinami. Dougie Lampkin – Repsol Montesa HRC remains in third place in the overall standings, after finishing fourth at his home round.

Michael Brown – Beta pleased the British fans with victory in the Junior Championship over Daniel Gibert – Montesa with Daniel Oliveras – Gas Gas finishing in third place. Gibert and Oliveras are now tied at the top of the championship table with Brown just two points behind, making for an interesting three-way battle as the championship draws towards its close.

In the Youth championship, Alex Wigg – Gas Gas dropped just four marks on the opening lap to set the early running. Despite dropping a larger twenty seven points on the second lap, his performance during the first half of the day was sufficient to give him his fourth win of the season over Sam Haslam – Gas Gas and Matteo Grattarola – Sherco. Championship leader, Loris Gubian – Sherco finished fourth.

Gubian now leads the championship by eighteen marks over Grattarola with Wigg in third place. With ten of the twelve possible days of competition counting, it’s still all to play for when competition resumes in Andorra in September.
