CCM riders feature strongly at round five of the Silkolene Short Track UK championship

CCM riders feature stronglyCCM factory riders Lee Complin and Andrew Moore finished third and fifth respectively at round five of the Silkolene Short Track UK championship held at Eastbourne speedway circuit last Sunday. The regular CCM duo were joined by Eastbourne Eagles star Lewis Bridger, the youngster making his short track debut, and coming home in a creditable sixth place in the final as he improved throughout the meeting.

With Complin and Moore having dominated the previous round at Mildenhall, it looked like it was going to be a repeat performance by the CCM pairing as Lee won all three of his heat races on route to the semi finals. Moore was unable to match his younger team mate and recorded just a single race win to take his place in the first semi along side Complin. A fourth and two runners up places also saw newcomer Bridger through to the knock out stage of the meeting.

Complin and Moore made the early running in the first semi, but a mistake saw the CCM factory duo lose their advantage and allow reigning champion Marco Belli from Italy through to take the race win. Moore was lucky not to crash, and there was relief all round as he and Complin plus CCM regular Richard May all transferred to the final.

Current championship leader Darren Pearson initially took the lead in the remaining semi, but was out run on lap four as both old hand and series organiser Peter Boast and the quick learning Bridger swept by. Boast and Bridger came home in this order to book their places in the grand final.

Despite strong showings earlier in the meeting none of the CCM runners featured at the front of the field during the final, as Belli and Boast had it their own way in the twelve lap showdown. Complin looked comfortable in third spot and rode a safe race to improve his championship challenge, whilst Moore had to settle for fifth place behind Pearson. Bridger showed his speedway pedigree by taking sixth place during his first ever short track outing.

Complin has now closed within three points of championship leader Pearson, with five of the ten rounds still remaining.
