MSA AWARDS BRITISH TITLE FOR KART GRANDS PRIX
The Motor Sports Association, the governing body of UK motor
sport, is delighted to announce that it has awarded two well-respected
promoters with the rights to stage prestigious MSA British
Kart Grands Prix for the next three years.
The Trent Valley Kart Club will host the ‘short circuit'
MSA British Kart Grand Prix for both Junior and Senior classes
at its impressive £5m purpose-built PFI facility in
Lincolnshire. The rights to the ‘long circuit' MSA British
Kart Grand Prix for gearbox superkarts have been awarded to
the British Superkart Racing Club. After a two-year break,
the latter event will be re-established at the challenging
Cadwell Park circuit following substantial investment from
new owner MotorSport Vision.
Announcing the new agreements Bruce Goddard, Business Development
Director at the MSA, said: "We are confident that Trent
Valley Kart Club and British Superkart Racing Club have the
wealth of experience not only to organise such prestigious
events but also to ensure both MSA British Kart Grands Prix
become major highlights on the annual UK motor sport calendar.
It's great news for the competitors, too, as the coveted ‘GP'
plates, awarded to the victors of both events for the following
12 months, are all set to become far more prominent and therefore
even more revered in karting circles."
"Naturally we are thrilled to have been granted the
rights to host the short circuit MSA British Kart Grand Prix
at PFI for next three years," said TVKC director Nigel
Edwards. "We already benefit from a head start having
run successful Grands Prix in the past but the MSA's welcome
decision to award us directly with the official rights will
allow us now to invest even more energy and enthusiasm into
the event. We have some great ideas in the pipeline for the
future."
For 2006 the Grand Prix will dovetail into the ever-successful
Kartmasters event being held at PFI on 4-6 August.
The long circuit MSA British Kart Grand Prix - last
run at Pembrey in 2004 - makes a welcome return at Cadwell
Park on 22-23 July after the cancellation of recent events.
The new rights holder is already the prominent force in UK
long circuit karting and the British Superkart Racing Club
is in no doubt that its new package will restore the Grand
Prix to its past status as a premier attraction for both competitors
and fans.
"Cadwell Park is a real favourite with the drivers and,
crucially, it's now been upgraded to meet the stringent demands
required for an FIA International Superkart Licence,"
explained Ian Rushforth, Competition Manager of the British
Superkart Racing Club. "Having been granted this licence,
two of the six Grands Prix classes will be run as rounds of
the important European Superracekart Series guaranteeing that
many of the top overseas competitors will be racing for MSA
British Grand Prix honours. We are making a fresh start and
the inclusion of these two prominent international classes
alongside the cream of UK gearbox categories, means we're
already off to a flying start."
