'Girl Power' week in the Powerboating World
'Girl Power' week in May (Devon) and July (Essex)
Working in the marine business and especially in the powerboating
world we have noticed that there were very few women coming
through the doors or generally making enquiries, and when
they do it is usually in protest with the husbands and partners
dragging them in.
So we put the idea across to my bosses of running a week
of powerboating events dedicated to women. They of course
rubbed their hands together and the eyes lit up and of course
they said yes - That was of course until I told them that
men were not allowed to attend!
So I have put the wheels in motion and in Devon we will be
running RYA Level II Powerboat Courses from 15th - 20th May,
with a demonstration weekend on the 20th & 21st May. The
demonstration weekend is free of charge to attend, all are
welcome and we shall have two race boats being exhibited with
Fiona Pascoe of Thundercat Racing on hand to answer any questions
on racing. In Essex the week kicks off on the 10th July with
their demo weekend being 15th & 16th July.
All females are invited to come and either take part in a
course, take a ride on one of the boats (which will be driven
by RYA qualified females) that we shall have on the water
or come and chat to one of our experience female sales and
parts reps who will be on hand to answer any questions you
might have.
This is a non profit event promoting powerboating as a sport
to females - it's not intended to be patronizing, just a chance
for women to chat to women about boats!
It's worth popping in for a glass of wine and a chat with
the girls!
