James Dabill takes control of the European championship
James
Dabill took control of the European championship by winning
the second round of the series held in Mortagua, Portugal
earlier today. Dabill gave his rivals no real chance and won
by a massive fifteen mark margin after posting the best score
on both laps.
Dabill now leads the championship by seven points after last
week’s winner Bethune could only manage sixth place
today. This was James’ first ever win in the European
series, and follows up the success he enjoyed last year on
route to taking the World Junior title.
“I really feel that I have ridden well today, apart
from a silly mistake in section one on the second lap when
I lost the front end, everything else has pretty much gone
as well as it could have done.”
“Last weekend I felt a little nervous with it being
the start of a new season, but with that out of the way and
some good practice during the week I came here full of confidence
and that has shown in my riding.”
“After the last round I knew I had to win today if
I am serious about becoming European champion, and that is
exactly what I have done. The added bonus is that Bethune
has had a bad day and this has let me open up a small lead
in the championship.”
Dabill was simply in a class of his own today and begun to
carve out a lead right from the off. His run through the first
seven sections, which were set on a steep hillside
